As Brisbane Roar prepares for its sudden death showdown with Melbourne Victory on Sunday, I have one piece of advice for Mike Mulvey: move Franjic forward.
While Ivan Franjic will most likely play right fullback for the Socceroos in Brazil, I believe that right midfield is his best position for the Roar. It was Mulvey who played him there late last season, and I believe it was a key part of the Roarís resurgence. He also played in that position successfully early this season before injury intervened.
The right midfield position has been occupied for the last couple of months by Dimitri Petratos.
Petratos burst onto the scene midway through the season, scoring a brace of goals against Sydney FC and scoring another the following week against Victory. His form back then was excellent, but I just feel his form has dropped in the last several weeks, to the point that I donít believe he deserves his place in the starting side. If it were up to me, I would push Franjic forward into right midfield, and start Jack Hingert at right fullback.
Hingert is an underrated player. He is very similar to Franjic in that he likes to attack at all costs, but he is also a solid defender.
Brisbaneís attack failed to spark in last Saturdayís 2-0 loss to the Mariners. Something needs to change. Franjic is a brilliant offensive player; letís make full use of his attacking flair. Petratos could then be used as a dangerous weapon off the bench, as we all know what he is capable of doing when he is on his game.†
